Formby is a coastal town situated approximately 10 miles (15 km) north of Liverpool. Its coast (and the wider Sefton coast) contains many important habitats and wildlife such as Red Squirrels, Natterjack Toads and Sand Lizards. Much of the coast has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation. Formby plus the parish of Little Altcar, which forms a significant part of the town, has a variety properties of different styles and sizes reflecting the diverse range of residents work and interests. The town is located in the Metropolitan Borough Council of Sefton, that is a Unitary authority. The community is discrete, suburban and cohesive with strong social networks, reflecting the areas strong ‘sense of place’.
