The Community Fund was set up in 2004 to provide help and support to local bodies and organisations involved in the social wellbeing of the residents of Formby. There are many groups and networks upon which many of the residents depend and contribute their time and money. So far the Parish Council has supported a wide variety of causes, for environmental projects, sports groups, crime prevention initiatives, older interest groups, (e.g. U3A) and the arts, for young and old.
In 2004/5 the expenditure was limited to two minor projects associated with a youth choir and a bowling club. Since then the applications have increased and at the end of the 2013/14 financial year the Council had allocated over £21,000 for Formby based initiatives since its formation.
The Council has elected to maintain its Community Fund setting aside £3,000 for 2014/15.
In addition the Parish Council will continue to be the main contributor to the Formby Christmas Lights Fund and will continue to support other Formby events.
The range of applications to the Community Fund has increased year on year. The above chart shows the broad cross section of the community that have received funds, including faith groups such as ‘Churches Together’ in Formby and Hightown; youth and older residents’ interest groups and sports groups. The Parish Council have also supported several police initiatives covering safety and crime prevention measures.
